Almost from its inception, the abbey at Göss in Styria has had special links with the "liquid bread" of the Middle Ages. The nunnery, which was founded in 1020, by Adula the Countess of Leoben, was the oldest in Styria and its former site provides the premises of todays brewery.

Eight generations ago, in 1809, the Lindemans family owned a farm in Vlezenbeek near Brussels. They decided to intensify Lambic brewing activities during winter, when less farm work had to be done. The farm produced wheat and barley, the raw materials of the Lambic.

In 1989, Charles and Rose Ann founded the Pike Place Brewery in Seattle’s famous public market. In 1996, the company, now called The Pike Brewing Company, expanded to its current space - a gravity flow steam brewery and pub, one-half block uphill from its original location. Michael Jackson described the new Pike as, “a shrine to beer.” The Finkels sold Pike, along with Merchant Du Vin, their beer importing company in 1997. After an eight-year “sabbatical,” they re-acquired Pike in 2006 and since that time, have worked to realize their dream to own a world class brewery.

The Pinkus-Muller brewery traces its origins to the family’s arrival in the Northern Germany town of Munster in 1816. At that time, Johannes Muller and his wife Friederika Cramer started a brewery and a bakery. Since their arrival there have been 150 breweries in Munster. Only Pinkus remains. So dedicated to quality is Pinkus, that they are the world’s first brewery to brew with only organically grown barley malt and whole hop blossoms.

Raasted Bryghus is located in the village of Råsted, just north of Randers, in what was once the pride of the village, the Raastedbro Mejeri. Beer has been brewed here since 2005 in the old premises which still bear witness to the building's history. All the brewing recipes are of course the brewery's own, and only the best ingredients are used in production. All the beer brewed is unfiltered and unpasteurised to give the very best result

The Old Brewery at Tadcaster was founded in 1758 and is Yorkshire’s oldest brewery. Samuel Smith is one of the few remaining independent breweries in England, and further is the last to utilize the classic Yorkshire Square system of fermentation solely in stone squares.

Shmaltz Brewing Company is the brainchild of California native and Stanford grad Jeremy Cowan. With the late night and early morning help of his girlfriend, his mom, a small tribe of generous friends, and his Granny’s Volvo, the first few cases of HE’BREW appeared on Bay Area shelves for the first night of Hanukkah, 5757 (1996).

Traquair House brewery founded in 1965 by Peter Maxwell Stuart, 20th Laird of Traquair. Since his death in 1990 the brewery has been managed by his daughter Catherine Maxwell Stuart. In 1997, the brewery was formed into a limited company. The brewery was originally an 18th century domestic brewery producing beer for the house and estate workers.

Zatec is an area which has become famous for its hops. The first hops were grown in 1004 and the brewing followed shortly. The combination of the dark red soil, rich in ferrous oxide (which retains water) and climate allows the region to produce the award winning crop.
